Annenberg Oxford Summer Institute 2006 – closing date 1 May

Global Media Policy - Technology and New Themes in Media Regulation

The Annenberg/Oxford Summer Institute: Global Media Policy:
Technology and New Themes in Media Regulation will be held at the University of Oxford, from 16 - 28 July 2006.

Organizing institutions: The Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania and the Programme in Comparative Media Law and Policy at the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, University of Oxford

This 2 week programme is designed to introduce participants to the multitude of issues presented by the new communications technologies. The increasing globalisation of the media and telecommunications industry has created enormous pressures on existing legal systems and will be a central feature of the course. Rapid changes in technology also present intriguing issues for scholarly and judicial debate, making this area particularly well suited to introduce participants to ways of thinking about and analyzing case law, statutes, and law review articles.

Applications are open to young professionals and graduate students in legal studies, communications studies and related disciplines. Criteria for selection will include demonstrating a strong interest in communications policy, regulation and law, and if applicable, relevant experience in the field. Some scholarships are available on a competitive basis. In 2005, the participants--about 35--came from more than 20 states around the world and included graduate students, regulators and post-docs.
