About the Ghanaian Oracle
The Ghanaian Oracle is a monthly magazine of news analysis, information, campaigning and culture. It provides a forum for people of progressive orientation and thinking to debate ideas, opinions and action relevant to the development and progress of Ghana and its people.
It exists to report on issues of development, poverty and inequality; to focus attention on the unjust relationship between the powerful and the powerless in Ghana and Africa; to debate and campaign for the radical changes necessary to meet the material and spiritual needs of all Ghanaians and Africans in general.
EDITORIAL CHARTER
The Ghanaian Oracle reflects a broad range of political views and opinions in Ghana and Africa. Its editorial policy therefore reflects this progressive thinking and orientation. Our Editorial policy is based on the following beliefs:
that society should be organised to meet social and individual needs of people,
poverty and deprivation can be countered through social action.
that massive indebtedness of poor nations such as Ghana to the rich has forced millions of people to live in hunger and despair is unacceptable.
that resources exist for people to live in dignity, this goal must be countered through social campaigns and action for a better world.
that discrimination has affected the rights of minorities and marginalised communities, hence the eradication of discrimination on the basis of tribe, race, gender, nationality, religion and mental ability is as central to national cohesion as it is for social stability and the ending of exploitation.
lasting social change to the real benefit of those exploited and oppressed can only come about through their own self – organisation and empowerment.
Accordingly we stand for:
One Ghana, one nation, one people: the solidarity of all Ghanaians to act and promote the national interest, and to avoid discrimination and prejudices based on tribe and social origins.
Pan Africanism: the right of Africans to build pan African institutions as forms of popular unity between peoples, and to protect African heritage and resources for the betterment of Africans.
Internationalism: mutual solidarity between those organising for a better world against the new world order of the multi-nationals, banks and unaccountable inter-international and governmental institutions.
Sustainable, socially useful production: redistribution of wealth so that all people have the right and opportunity to earn an independent livelihood.
Self-determination and democracy: the right of peoples to determine their own future and preferred form of government free from state repression.
Interdependence: we live in a global inter dependent world, and must work in solidarity with like minded people the world over to achieve social justice for all.
The magazine is seeking to recruit a host of feature writers, editors, and contributors. Major areas of interest are in politics, the environment, development, arts, book reviewers, gender and history. We are looking for writers from all over Africa and the rest of the world.
