Business & Human Rights Resource Centre, an independent charity, tracks the social & environmental impacts of 5100 companies worldwide. We seek a highly-motivated person, based in South Africa, to lead our work on Anglophone countries in Southern & Western Africa. NGO experience, excellent English language skills, and the right to work in South Africa are required. Fees: R190,000/year for 3 days per week work. Further details are below. Closing date 3 July.

Mary Robinson chairs the Centre’s International Advisory Network. 23 academic institutions comprise our Academic Partners, including Centre for Applied Legal Studies, University of the Witwatersrand; Centre for Corporate Citizenship, University of South Africa; Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria; Socio-Economic Rights Project of Community Law Centre, University of the Western Cape.
You will be responsible to the Centre’s Director, Deputy Director & Research Director, working with them and other staff to further develop the organization, its website, its company response process, and its outreach.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Online research and input of information onto the Resource Centre website;
• Inviting companies to respond to civil society concerns about their conduct; allegations and company responses are posted on our website and in our Weekly Updates (sent to 14,000 opinion leaders worldwide);
• Representing the Resource Centre regionally, at meetings & conferences;
• Building contacts with, and seeking information from, a broad range of people working in African NGOs, companies, media, investment firms, universities, governments, etc;
• Conducting regional research missions;
• Making a special effort to draw attention to under-reported issues & cases in the region;
• Participating in Skype meetings with all the Centre’s global staff, every two weeks.
The location of this post within South Africa is flexible, depending on where the applicant is based.
