NIGERIA: Obasanjo seeks establishment of national AIDS agency

Nigeria's President Olusegun Obasanjo has sent a bill to the National Assembly which seeks the establishment of a National Agency for the Prevention and Control of AIDS (NAPCA), news organisations said.

NIGERIA: Obasanjo seeks establishment of national AIDS agency

ABIDJAN, 11 October (IRIN) - Nigeria's President Olusegun Obasanjo on
Wednesday sent a bill to the National Assembly which seeks the
establishment of a National Agency for the Prevention and Control of AIDS
(NAPCA), news organisations said. 'The Guardian' newspaper reported that
NAPCA would coordinate and facilitate the prevention and control of
HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and other related diseases.

Over five percent of Nigeria's population between the ages of 15-49 live
with HIV/AIDS, according to the UNDP 2001 World Report.
