Africa: DBSA launches information hub

Information regarding Africa's development can now be accessed at the click of the button, thanks to a new information system known as the 'internet and networking hub'.

The hub is made possible by the Development Bank of South Africa (DBSA) to set up an 'internet and networking hub' where knowledge on Africa?s development can be deposited and shared free of charge. This was during the last day of the '2nd Biennial' conference on Knowledge Management Africa (KMA) that brought together academics, bank officials, government representatives and other development partners.

Officiating at the launch, the CEO of the South African based development bank Paul Baloyi said that researchers, investors and other people interested in Africa could access any information at the click of the button, "The hub contains information covering a wide range of topics on the continent's development. This includes information about investment opportunities, tourism, history and culture governance, knowledge systems and service delivery," he said.

The new hub is part of a wider African governments' project aimed at enhancing the image of the continent that has hitherto been potrayed differently. African policy-makers can use the hub to accelerate development and service.

Knowledge Management Africa is an initiative that seeks to facilitate the harnessing of knowledge to improve development in the economic, social, cultural and political spheres in Africa.

Through the years, KMA has created forums for knowledge exchange where it identifies and mobilises African expertise on various development challenges.

The first KM Africa conference was held in Johannessburg South Africa, in 2005. The third meeting will be held in Dakar, Senegal.
