SA: ZIM CLAMPDOWN PROTEST
A protest, organised by MISA and NCRF, against restrictive media clauses passed under the Public Order and Security Bill in Zimbabwe is planned to take place in Johannesburg on Friday, 18 January 2002.
The protest against restrictive media clauses passed under the Public
Order and Security Bill in Zimbabwe is planned to take place in
Johannesburg on Friday, 18 January 2002 -TOMORROW.
The protest march will start at the Civic Center in Braamfontein to the
CCMA House - Zimbabwean Consulate in Marshalltown (City Center).
On arrival a memo/petition will be handed over to the a representative of
the Zimbabwean Consolate.
Please see below the image protocol for the protest TOMORROW:
1. wear black clothes because you are in mourning for media freedom
2. red fabric gags around your mouth because you are not free to speak
(and with a reference to the blood shed by journalists in Zimbabwe)
3. carry blank white placards because you are not able to get information
out
4. hand out statement (available from MISA)
