RESOLUTION ON THE DETERIORATING HUMAN RIGHTS SITUATION IN THEREPUBLIC OF THE GAMBIA

The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) notes with concern the escalation of unbridled attacks in the on human rights in the Gambia.

Dear Secretary General,

President Yahya Jammeh of The Gambia on September 21, 2009 issued a stern warning to Gambians in a television broadcast not to have anything to do with international human rights advocates, who he described as “saboteurs” bent on “destabilizing” the country.

A civil society group has been launched in the Senegalese capital of Dakar to advocate for the enforcement of human rights in The Gambia.
