Background

In Chinua Achebe’s ‘A Man of the People’, Chief Nanga, a rather interesting character, is described by the narrator Odilli as a man of the people, and indubitably the most approachable politician in the country. He is also Nigeria’s minister of culture in the novel, set in this country.

On 29 January 2009 Zimbabwe stopped using its own inflation-ravaged currency, replacing it with a multi-currency regime dominated by the US dollar. The initiative cured the inflation challenge and brought about some stability.
