Ethiopia: Workshop on macroeconomic policies, agrarian change and development

A workshop on 'Macroeconomic Policies, Agrarian Change and Development', is going to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from December 12-16, 2004. The International Development Economics Associates (IDEAs) in association with the Ethiopian Economic Association, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and CODESRIA, Dakar, Senegal are inviting young African economists and policymakers for a capacity building workshop.

In association with The Ethiopian Economic Association, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and CODESRIA, Dakar, Senegal. Applications are invited from young African economists and policymakers for a capacity building workshop on 'Macroeconomic Policies, Agrarian Change and Development' to be held at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 12-16 December 2004. The deadline for applications is: 15 October, 2004. Program: The Workshop will focus on issues of current concern with respect to the agrarian sector in developing countries in the context of the changed macroeconomic environment in the last two decades. It will be organized around the following broad themes: The Macro Context: (A) Constraints and Possibilities for Developing Countries; (B) Agrarian Structure and Patterns of Growth; (C) Agriculture, Employment and Poverty; (D) Alternative Policies for Developing Countries. The total working time of the workshop is 30 hours over five working days. The sessions will be in lecture format followed by open discussion. In addition, participants are also expected to attend an International Conference on 'The Agrarian Constraint and Poverty Reduction: Macroeconomic Lessons for Africa' to be held in Addis Ababa during 17-19 December, 2004. Eligibility for participation: a. Must be African nationals based in Africa; b. May be economists who have completed or are close to completing their Ph.D. dissertations; or c. May be individuals with a strong economics background, involved in advocacy work with civil s ociety organizations or engaged in policy work with African governments. Successful applicants will be sponsored to cover the costs of their travel and local hospitality.
