National launching of GCAP in Sierra Leone

NATIONAL LAUNCHING OF THE GLOBAL CALL TO ACTION AGAINST POVERTY IN SIERRA LEONE

Dear Collegues,
I am pleased to inform you all that the G-CAP was officially launched at the Miatta Conference Hall Youyi Building in Freetown, Sierra Leone on the 25th May 2005. Participants came from all our platform memebrs and from other Civil Society Organisation(National and International), School children, the Media, Government officials, the Private Sector and the general public.
 
The launching was organised by ActionAid International Sierra Leone in collaboration with our partners. Guest speakers at the launching included:
• Mr. Tennyson Williams - Country Director, ActionAid International Sierra leone -Topic: GCAP and the rationale for AAISL's involvement and the relationship       between the AAI's New Strategy "The Right To End Poverty"
• Dr. Francis Kaikai - Director, Development Assistance Coordination Office      - Topic: The relevance of GCAP in Poverty Eradication efforts in Sierra leone: PRSP Perspectives.
• Mr. Ibrahim S. Kamara - UNDP, Topic: Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Poverty Eradication in Sierra Leone
• Mr. Thomas N'golo Katta - National Coordinator, Centre for the Coordination of Youth Affairs (CCYA), Topic: Achieving the GCAP mandate as part of Poverty Eradication efforts: Youth Perspective.
• Mr. Momoh Turay - Environmental Foundation for Africa (EFA) - Topic: International Trade Policies, Agriculture and Rural Livelihood and the need for the GCAP
• Mr. Charles Lahai - National Secretary General - National Forum for Human Right (NFHR), Topic: Poverty as a violation of Human Rights: Perspectives and role of civil society in achieving the GCAP mandate
• Mr. I.B. Kargbo - President, Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), Topic: GCAP mandate and Poverty Eradication efforts in Sierra Leone in Sierra Leone: Perspective of the media
