21 September 2009 marked the 100th birthday of African revolutionary and Pan Africanist Kwame Nkrumah. Nkrumah had a vision for a united Africa, released from the shackles of colonialism – a vision which is yet to materialise:

A number of Nigerian bloggers marked the death of human rights lawyer and social justice activist, Gani Fawehinmi (1938-2009).

As this is the last blog roundup before September, I thought it would be interesting to introduce readers to some of the blogs which cover African art and literature. For a continent so rich in all of these areas it is unfortunate that they get relatively little coverage in the blogosphere.

The big story this week is President Obama’s visit to Ghana, which is also covered extensively in Pambazuka News. The main focus of the blog posts was his now famous speech, including the paragraph on how Africa should stop blaming the West for its problems.
