Last February, Sidahmed Lemjayed was sentenced to life imprisonment for peaceful political activities in Western Sahara – a country which has been occupied by neighbouring Morocco since 1975.

At 3:00 pm, Sunday 20 October, a Sudan Government war plane attacked a nomad settlement in North Darfur, west of Khazan Jadeed and east of Shearia, killing 10 persons and injuring eight, all members of the same family.

This morning the European Parliament adopted Dr Charles Tannock's report on human rights in the Sahel and the Western Sahara. This is an extensive and detailed report, which addresses the concerns of the Saharawi people, particularly as regards human rights.

Sudan is witnessing a new escalation of lethal violence, which is resulting, on a daily basis, in scores of protesters and activists being killed or seriously wounded.

SCOPE OF THE MISSION

1. In recent times, Nigerians have suffered in the hands of military personnel, series of unjustified extra-judiciary killings, mutilations, assaults, brutalities and cruelties.

“Since we were retired, no kobo was paid to me. Every time, we would be called to come to Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, to fill one form after another. Sometimes, we sleep at Awolowo Road on the bare floor, for us to be attended to. In spite of that, nothing had come out of it.

“These upcoming solar and wind projects, no matter how green, will be severely damaging for the people of Western Sahara. The energy produced will be used to capitalise on the resources already illegally being exploited by Morocco in Western Sahara, thereby intensifying the ongoing pillage.
