Martyred Burkinabe revolutionary Pan-Africanist and Marxist leader from 1983-1987, Capt. Thomas Sankara, was assassinated in a coup on October 15, 1987. He was only 37 years old.
“…when you select heroes about which black children ought to be taught, let them be black heroes who have died fighting for the benefit of black people. We never were taught about Christophe or Dessalines.
It happens on a regular basis. I’m speaking on a panel or at some type of event related to the struggle for African unity, liberation, socialism, and forward progress (Pan-Africanism).
As we remember the passing away of Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe (1924 - 1978) during this month of February, we can do well to reflect on his developmental ideas. To this day, Sobukwe remains a source of inspiration to many people in South Africa in particularand around the pan-African world.
Many people are aware that 21 February 2015 will commemorate 50 years since the brutal assassination of El Hajj Malik El Shabazz – Malcolm X – in front of hundreds of supporters, including his wife and children. There has certainly been much said and written about Malcolm over the last 50 years.
