The Information and Communications Amendment Bill of 2013 was passed by parliament on October 31, 2013, but has not yet been signed by the president. Another problematic draft law, the Media Council Bill, is due to be debated in parliament in the coming weeks.

We, the registered Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) represented here wish to show our concerns and rejection of the proposed amendments to the Public Benefits Organization (PBO) Act 2013.

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) have today expressed serious concerns about the intimidation of journalists in Kenya and some provisions of the country’s media bill.

A number of individual activists, women’s and human rights organizations have come together for collective action to continue making demands and put pressure for the realization of justice for Liz.

The end of the Cold War saw Kenya’s leverage as the bulwark against the spread of communism in the East African region wane. Kenya until then was held up as the poster child for stability that comes with being in the Western camp as opposed to being in the Eastern bloc.

This week many of the current political leaders of Africa will meet in Addis Ababa to discuss whether African states should withdraw en masse from the International Criminal Court because of the indictment of Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and Vice President William Ruto.
