Third World Network Africa, a non-profit advocacy organisation is looking for a lead programme officer for its Gender Unit. TWN-Af´s work involves research, communications and campaigns around economic, social justice and development policy issues. It seeks a greater articulation of the needs and rights of people of the third world, especially marginalised groups, a fair distribution of the world's resources and forms of development that are ecologically sustainable and fulfil human needs.

Third World Network Africa, a non-profit advocacy organisation is
looking for a lead programme officer for its Gender Unit.

TWN-Af´s work involves research, communications and campaigns
around economic, social justice and development policy issues. It
seeks a greater articulation of the needs and rights of people of the
third world, especially marginalised groups, a fair distribution of the
world's resources and forms of development that are ecologically
sustainable and fulfil human needs.

The Gender Unit ensures the integration of gender equity and equality
in TWN-Af's overall programme work and brings TWN-Af's perspectives
on policy issues to bear on work on gender equity and equality on the
African continent through participation in the women's movement.
Within this broad mandate, the Gender Unit directly oversees the
Gender and Economic Reforms in Africa (GERA) Programme.

GERA is a pan African research, capacity building and advocacy
programme. The programme seeks to provide a critical analysis of
economic reform processes in Africa from a gender perspective and to
develop alternative approaches that ensure gender equity and
economic justice. It also seeks to enhance the role of African women in
economic policy making and research.

The Lead Gender Programme Officer will lead the design and
implementation of the gender unit's programme.

Skills and Qualifications:
* A commitment to TWN-Af´s vision
* Gender analysis, research, advocacy and networking skills
* Understanding of current gender and social justice issues in
Africa
* Knowledge of and experience with the African women's
movement
* At least a post graduate qualification or its equivalent in the
social sciences; preferably gender studies, development
economics or development studies
* Good writing and presentation skills
* An ability to read, write and speak English. Ability to speak and
write French is a strong advantage
* Willingness and ability to travel frequently
* Requisite experience in gender work
* Be a female national of an African country

Terms: The position is for an initial period of 3 years with an option for
renewal. TWN-Africa offers a competitive compensation package.
