The postholder will be based at Amoud community-based University in Borama, which is the first institute of higher education to evolve since the end of Somaliland's period of conflict. The post offers an exciting opportunity to a resourceful and dedicated individual to assist in the development and management of information systems for the university, and offer necessary support and training to users.
For over 30 years, ICD has been placing workers in development projects and has on average around 100 skilled professionals working in Latin America, the Caribbean, South East Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) SPECIALIST
AMOUD UNIVERSITY - Borama, Awdal Region, Somaliland
9 month contract – November 2003 – July 2004
The postholder will be based at Amoud community-based University in Borama, which is the first institute of higher education to evolve since the end of Somaliland’s period of conflict. The post offers an exciting opportunity to a resourceful and dedicated individual to assist in the development and management of information systems for the university, and offer necessary support and training to users.
We are looking for an innovative and creative individual able to handle the challenges inherent in a new institution in a developing country. You will have a diploma or other approved qualification in information systems and a minimum of 3 years work experience preferably in the not for profit sector.
Experience in installation of LAN, including configuration and maintenance and appropriate security measures, web design and web construction using HTML and CSS, hardware maintenance, and setting up email and access to the Web are essential. You should also have experience of informal training of students/adults and of having worked in a resource-poor environment.
Knowledge of different operating systems including Windows, Unix and Mackintosh based system, awareness of accessibility issues, an ability and commitment to share skills and experience and to work in a flexible way within existing resources are essential.
You should also have gender awareness, cultural sensitivity, and social and political maturity. A commitment to the aims and objectives of the University and willingness to become involved in the wider life of the institution is also essential.
