The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA), based in Dakar, Senegal invites applications for the post of Assistant Editor for its Publications and Communication Department. This position is considered as one of the key posts in the publications programme of CODESRIA. The successful candidate will function as part of a team in the Department of Publications and Communication of the Secretariat. S/he will work under the overall supervision of the Managing Editor and the Head of the Department.

ASSISTANT EDITOR
The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA), based in Dakar, Senegal invites applications for the post of Assistant Editor for its Publications and Communication Department. This position is considered as one of the key posts in the publications programme of CODESRIA. The successful candidate will function as part of a team in the Department of Publications and Communication of the Secretariat. S/he will work under the overall supervision of the Managing Editor and the Head of the Department.
The holder of the post will be required, as a primary duty, to contribute to the day-to-day work of copyediting and proofreading research documents in English and, in this connection, will liaise with the Managing Editor and the external copyeditors, typesetters, and printers contracted by the Council.
The successful candidate will be called upon to play an active role in fine tuning the Council's editorial processes, assist in following up works given to external copyeditors and participate in ensuring the timely production of all CODESRIA titles. The ideal candidate will need to be a hands-on, self-motivating and target-oriented person requiring minimum supervision.
Qualifications:
Applicants must:
*Have a sound university education and relevant work experience in a research and/ or publishing environment;
*Have a demonstrable experience of copyediting in an academic/research work environment;
*Be fully conversant with current Information Technology and electronic publishing;
*Show a clear experience of editing and editorial work;
*Be fluent in English and have a strong working knowledge of French.
Working Conditions:
The salary level on offer will depend on the successful applicant's experience and qualifications, and will be comparable to those for similar posts in other international institutions. The contract will be for an initial period of two (2) years.
