KENYA: calling for nominations of WOMEN'S HUMAN RIGHTS AWARDS 2002
Nominees should be women, currently active and have over the years demonstrated a passionate interest, campaigned for and stood firm for the defence of women's and girl's human rights in Kenya. The award is intended for women whose contribution may not obviously have been recognized at the national level. According to a statement from COVAW (K) "the nominating organization or individual must have direct experience of the nominees work."

nominations of WOMEN'S
HUMAN RIGHTS AWARDS 2002.
Nominees should be women, currently active and have over the years
demonstrated a passionate interest, campaigned for and stood firm for the
defence of women's and girl's human rights in Kenya. The award is intended
for women whose contribution may not obviously have been recognized at the
national level. According to a statement from COVAW (K) "the nominating
organization or individual must have direct experience of the nominees
work."
"As you are aware, there have been many human rights awards but none has
targeted women specifically. More so, when these awards have been given,
women have not been recognized for their enormous contribution to
championing the rights of girls and women", says Covaw-Kenya's advocacy
officer Mueni Mbaluka.
The winner will be announced on March 7, 2002, eve of the International
Women's Day. The deadline for submission of nominations will be the
Wednesday 20th February 2002. Nomination must include the following
- A signed letter of nomination indicating how the nominator knows the
nominee and for how long. - Biographical data on the nominee (full name,
age, education, place of work, background and contacts) and a detailed
history of the nominees campaign and advocacy against violations of girl's
and women's human rights in Kenya - Two endorsement letters from
organizations or individuals other than the nominator and if possible,
additional supporting materials such as newspaper articles or publications
or written testimonies from people who have been influenced or assisted by
the nominee in one way or another - A few good labeled photographs of the
nominee(s) for possible publication
