CIVICUS seeks a qualified Events Coordinator to co-ordinate planning, fundraising, programme development and delivery of high-profile international convening events for civil society. The main area of responsibility for this position will be to serve as lead on the CIVICUS World Assembly, but also for other convening events that CIVICUS may organise. This is a management-level position and, for the right candidate, could result in a long-term appointment.

CIVICUS seeks a qualified Events Coordinator to co-ordinate planning, fundraising, programme development and delivery of high-profile international convening events for civil society. The main area of responsibility for this position will be to serve as lead on the CIVICUS World Assembly, but also for other convening events that CIVICUS may organise. This is a management-level position and, for the right candidate, could result in a long-term appointment.
The CIVICUS World Assembly is a key convening event for civil society practitioners, activists, grantmakers, students, and researchers, as well as government officials and business leaders. The event has many roles, including: 1) placing the needs of communities on the global stage in a forum that encourages open and constructive dialogue within and across sectors; 2) providing a learning environment, where participants can share expertise and skills in such areas as advocacy training and fundraising; and, 3) creating an open space for people to connect with peers from around the world and within the local host community to re-energize their work.
Salary: Subject to qualifications and experience
Contract: One year with the possibility of extension
Qualifications:
Essential:
Commitment to CIVICUS’ vision and mission
Strong record of successful conference / event coordination
Solid management, program, budgeting and financial oversight experience
The ability to develop, plan, and implement a strategy in a collaborative environment
The ability to document decisions and processes to enhance organisational learning
A high level of intelligence, energy and attention to detail
Capacity to operate well under pressure and against multiple tight deadlines, and willing to work extra hours as necessary
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of, or as leader of, a team
The ability to think ahead and identify next steps
University degree
High level of computer proficiency (word processing, database, spreadsheets)
Desirable
Experience working on or, preferably, coordinating international events
Experience working in a multi-cultural environment
Sound understanding of the international civil society community and its issues
A track record of successful fundraising, especially for international events
Demonstrated success in managing staff and volunteers
The ability to communicate effectively in at least two languages, one of which is English
Experience of working in an organisation with multi-country operations.
