Call for applications: CCS research grants

The Centre for Civil Society (CCS), University of KwaZulu-Natal, would like to invite applications for researchers wishing to locate themselves at CCS for periods of either six months or a year. Six month fellowships will receive a grant of R75000 and one year fellowships will receive a grant of R150000. These may be treated as taxable income.

CCS would like to support three different types of fellowships:

1.. Pre-doctoral students who wish to develop a PHD proposal on a topic related to civil society.
2.. Civil society research scholars who are normally located in a civil society organisation but would like some time to conduct research on civil society.
3.. Academics/postdoctoral scholars who wish to conduct research or complete a writing project on civil society.

Candidates should submit a proposal of a maximum of 3000 words on your planned research along with a CV and a letter of motivation. In your letter of motivation, indicate whether you are applying for fellowship type 1, 2 or 3, whether you would prefer a six month or a one year fellowship and when you would like to start. The period of the fellowship can be any time after the announcement of the results in April 2006 but must start by March 2007. You would be expected to be resident in Durban for the majority of your grant period and would be expected to focus your work activities on the research project for the duration. You will be required to submit a full research report on your research activities by the time of your departure.
