KENYA: courses via the internet
Nairobinet Online, an application service provider in East Africa, in conjunction with Mindleaders, will soon start offering courses in information technology, business and finance.
The internationally recognised courses presented through the Internet are less expensive and will give Kenyans an opportunity to quality training.
The training will be accessible to all learning institutions that are connected to the Internet and students will be required to pay Sh5,000 for the whole course. The training that will be available 24 hours, seven days a week, will also benefit visually impaired students as they will be able to use a text reader programme.
Progress on the training will be easily tracked and one would be allowed to research topics of interest in any or all the courses that could be accessible. According to the NairobiNet Managing Director, Mr Sammy Buruchara, the traditional form of training cannot meet today's demands. Buruchara notes that the number of trainees in a normal classroom setting is a big challenge to high quality training. In this new way of training, a student will only be required to sit and log in a password into a computer in order to access the courses.
"Home subscribers will also be able to enjoy these benefits conveniently at very reasonable prices. Cyber cafes can also incorporate the e-leaning technology into their portfolio," says Buruchara.
