The International Crisis Group (Crisis Group) is an independent, non-profit, multinational organisation, with over 115 staff members on five continents, working through field-based analysis and high-level advocacy to prevent and resolve deadly conflict. We are currently looking for a highly motivated staff member who will be posted in Nigeria.
Job description:
Crisis Group is seeking a senior analyst to work in Nigeria for its West Africa Project. The job involves working with other members of the West Africa team to research and produce reports on security, conflict, political, governance, human rights and social issues related to West Africa sub-region with particular emphasis on Nigeria. The senior analyst will carry out research and advocacy for Crisis Group in Nigeria and neighbouring countries.
Extensive travel within West Africa is required.

Major responsibilities:
• Providing analysis and advice on the key issues linked to the political, social and security issues of Nigeria;
• Conducting extensive field research into prevailing security, social and political conditions;
• Proposing policy initiatives by the relevant governmental and non-governmental actors to address the underlying issues that feed grievances;
• Preparing detailed reports and briefing papers setting out relevant research findings and policy recommendations.

Requirements:
• Deep knowledge of the West Africa region and extensive contacts in Nigeria with governmental and non governmental officials, media, and academia;
• 5+ years of professional experience in conflict analysis, journalism, NGO, IGO, or government work related to Nigeria.
• Excellent writing and analytical skills, good in summarizing vast amounts of written material.
• Fluency in English and French, knowledge of local languages highly appreciated;
• Excellent writing and analytical skills
• In-depth knowledge of the West Africa region and in particular Nigeria’s governance issues.

In the cover letter the candidate should briefly describe how he/she meets the position qualifications. In the research proposal he/she should propose ideas on themes that he/she could write about Nigeria, and briefly describe how he or she would research them (in no more than two pages). The writing sample must be an unedited piece on current issues – no longer than 2 pages.
