PlusNews French Service ­ an HIV/AIDS service for sub-Saharan
Africa

PlusNews coverage is now available in French in addition to Eng-
lish. PlusNews is an e-mail and web-based HIV/AIDS information
service for sub-Saharan Africa, run by the Integrated Regional
Information Networks (IRIN). Free subscriptions are available
through the web site or by contacting [email protected].

PlusNews provides news, information and analysis on the struggle
being waged against HIV/AIDS across Africa, including coverage
of the wealth of community-based activities, government initia-
tives and donor programmes targeting the pandemic.

The overarching goal of the service is to help build sustainable
information networks between organisations on the ground - espe-
cially those representing people living with HIV and AIDS - to
promote the local sharing of knowledge and experience.

PlusNews offers access to the latest epidemiological data, in-
formation on government programmes, donor initiatives, local
civil society activities, expert analysis, and ­ crucially ­ the
voices of people directly affected by HIV/AIDS.

Services Include:

NEWS SERVICE: PlusNews reporting focuses on the humanitarian,
political, economic, cultural and regional contexts of the
HIV/AIDS crisis. It uses both local journalists and IRIN staff
writers to provide a unique service that mixes colour features
with in-depth analysis.

WEEKLY NEWSLETTER: PlusNews produces a weekly electronic news-
letter, which includes summaries of the articles produced during
the previous week, together with a digest of upcoming confer-
ences, synopsis of selected research and web links to the latest
resource materials.

COUNTRY PROFILES: PlusNews has developed a series of "Country
Profiles" with regularly updated and annotated contact details
for relevant government departments, NGOs and organisations of
people living with AIDS, as well as country socio-economic indi-
cators and the latest epidemiological data.

RADIO NEWS BRIEFS: PlusNews has developed a "rip-and-read"
HIV/AIDS news service for radio broadcasters available via e-
mail.

All material can be reprinted free-of-charge by humanitarian and
media agencies provided the IRIN copyright is retained.
