cosatu: in remembrance of Nkosi Johnson
COSATU expresses its sincere and heart-felt condolences to the family and relatives of the fallen young Aids hero, Nkosi Johnson. The federation notes with regret that Nkosi’s premature death coincides with the International Children’s Day. It would like to regard his departure as a celebration to the bravery, dedication and unwavering commitment he exhibited in the struggle against the HIV/Aids pandemic.
His plight, as well as his heroic and moving speech at the
International World Aids Conference, contributed massively
to the government’s High Court case victory against the
international drug manufacturers.
The strength and courage that he put during his eleven years of
suffering from the disease, something that made him the
longest surviving Aids kid, shall forever lie cherished in our
memories as a symbol of hope and determination in the
ongoing struggle against HIV/Aids.
He has inspired all people suffering from the disease and
serves as an example that one can survive for a long time with
HIV/Aids.
As Nkosi leaves us today on the Children’s Day, the day that
he was supposed to be celebrating as a child, the federation
hopes that all children in this country will join in celebration of
his contribution to the HIV/Aids struggle and remembrance of
his bravery.
