The Community Development Resource Association (CDRA) is offering the following five-day courses for organisational, programme and project leaders or managers of development organisations.

Course 1
Developmental Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation

Course aims:

* To un-pack pre-conceptions aboutplanning, monitoring and evaluation
*To put forward and stimulate the sharing of alternative and appropriate approaches and tools
*To provide guidance in applying these in rigorous, innovative and developmental ways

Planning, monitoring and evaluation are key processes in the working cycle of developmental organisations. However Logical Frameworks, introduced to bring rigour and accountability to these processes have tended to make attempts to work sensitively or flexibly, in complex, changing environments, more difficult and has not resulted in more developmental outcomes in the longer term.

Through this course participants will explore and develop alternative approaches and methodologies that enable planning, monitoring and evaluation processes to support rather than obstruct developmental field-practices.

* Course dates: 16 - 20 September 2002

* Venue: Oatlands Holiday Village, Simon's Town, Cape Town

* Cost: R1200 per person, including course fee, four nights accommodation and all meals

Course 2:
Developmental Supervision

Course aims:

*To help leadership/management to improve or create relationships and systems within their organisations that enable more developmental supervision and support for staff which better enables them to meet organisational and personal goals.

Each person comes to work as a unique person and it takes a unique approach to enable them to offer their best. They need to be inspired and challenged to push past their own boundaries and be supported through the difficulties they encounter. They must be held accountable for their responsibilities but in a way that encourages honesty, self-reflection and learning.

This course explores the principles, values and practices of effective supervision, mentoring and performance appraisals.

* Course dates: 4 - 8 November, 2002

* Venue: Oatlands Holiday Village, Simon's Town, Cape Town

accommodation and all meals
