Zohran Mamdani Wins Mayoral Primary in New York
GPAM recognizes the significance of Zohran Mamdani's win in the Democratic primary elections in New York City.
Progressive forces throughout the United States and beyond have much to learn from how democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani pulled off an unprecedented upset on 24 June 2025. Mamdani is part of the Democratic Socialists of America's New York chapter. He's largely championed affordable housing and reasonable transportation for the citizens of NY while in office.
Zohran Mamdani's mayoral primary win on Tuesday night sets him up to potentially become New York City's first Muslim mayor and one of its youngest. While Mamdani was not the most experienced candidate on the ballot, he electrified a voter base hungry for change. He is the first man born in Africa and the third Muslim to serve in the state legislature.
Mamdani ran a principled campaign by not retreating on his position of supporting the rights of the Palestinian peoples to self-determination.

Mamdani brought something new into politics while being funny at the same time.
