The Agenda Feminist Media Project publishes a quarterly thematic journal and is committed to giving women a forum, voice and skills to reflect their experiences and to write about them. The journal which is read throughout the world and South Africa is well respected as one of South Africa's premier feminist publications with a proud history. This year we are running a competition to find outstanding photographic submissions which would be published in our final issue for 2004.

The Agenda Feminist Media Project publishes a quarterly thematic journal and
is committed to giving women a forum, voice and skills to reflect their
experiences and to write about them. The journal which is read throughout
the world and South Africa is well respected as one of South Africa's
premier feminist publications with a proud history.
This year we are running a competition to find outstanding photographic
submissions which would be published in our final issue for 2004 entitled:
"African Feminisms: Sexualities in Africa".
We would like to invite you to submit photographs that explores this
issue or perhaps recommend people whom you think would be interested in
submitting their work for possible publication.
All those who have their submissions published in this issue will be awarded
R100, while the image chosen for the cover will be awarded R500.00.
Photographers who appear in this issue will also received credit for their
images.
We have included a brief 'framework' for the planned issue to give you an
idea of the kind of issue we envision.
Interpret the theme African Feminisms: Sexualities in Africa by letting
your image be suggestive about change/transgression/overcoming
boundaries that is for you, representative of the current and changing
image of sexualities in Africa. The issue is motivated by a recognition
of the
considerable debate that is taking place both within South Africa, and
more broadly, about the changing nature of sexuality.
Some of the areas that we hope will be addressed in the photographic essay
include:
*gender and sex
*the dynamic nature of sex
*sex as informed by patriarchy
*private and public spaces
*gender violence
*suffering and pain
*pleasure
We expect that contributions will engage with these questions through
examining a range of issues - political, social, economic etc - the criteria
being that they engage with issues around sexuality.
Conditions of Entry
1. Submissions must be emailed in a high res jpeg or .tiff format.
2. Submissions will not be returned.
3. A short biography and caption must accompany each submission.
4. the Judges decision is final and no correspondence in any form will be
entered into.
