  • Rewriting the legacy of Walter Rodney?

    Matthew Quest | Global Pan-Africanism
    12.03.2016

The invented “Rodney” as human rights activist and advocate of economic development is reconcilable with a sense of wonder that, had he not been assassinated, he may have become a future president of Guyana. Why have there been silences in recent years avoiding the matter that Rodney was a revolutionary who wished to overturn nation-states and ruling classes above society?

  • If we want to understand African history, we need to understand the Battle of Adwa

    Hannah Giorgis | Global Pan-Africanism
    02.03.2016

The battle - and the greater narrative of Ethiopia’s independence – is a powerful symbol of African resistance to European imperialism. “Ethiopianism” has often served as a basis for other black and African peoples’ visions of political and spiritual liberation from colonial forces, both formal and informal.

    David Hinds | Global Pan-Africanism

Assassinations and other forms of violence targeting critics of the State have been part and parcel of Guyana’s political history. Revelation that Walter Rodney was murdered by the State must now force the people of Guyana to confront the reality of state brutality, seeking to end it once and for all.

  • Sobukwe’s pan-Africanist dream: An elusive idea that refuses to die

Mashupye Herbert Maserumule | Global Pan-Africanism
    24.02.2016

Robert Sobukwe died of cancer on 27 February 1978 after decades of abuse by the apartheid regime. His contributions to the end of this evil system and to pan-African thought remain outstanding. For Africa to be for Africans, pan-Africanism should be a lived experience, not an ideological project for political rhetoric.

  • The coup against Nkrumah and the role of African Americans in the African revolution

    Abayomi Azikiwe | Global Pan-Africanism
    16.02.2016

African American political organizations played a key role in influencing Nkrumah from the 1930s, until his removal from power in 1966 and beyond. Although the coup was designed by the U.S. to halt the advance of the African Revolution and the internationalization of the struggle of African Americans, solidarity efforts accelerated from the late 1960s through the 1990s when the last vestiges of white-minority rule were eliminated in South Africa and Namibia.

Bankie Forster Bankie | Global Pan-Africanism
    28.10.2015

Pan-Africanism is part of African heritage. Governments to date have proven unwilling to implement this responsibility. That is why Pan-Africanism is the primary responsibility of Pan-Africanists, not governments. If it is to retain its integrity, Pan-Africanism should be wary of governments. If Pan-Africanism is co-opted and controlled by governments, then we are finished.
