    Various | Global Pan-Africanism
    20.07.2017

Reparatory Justice must be the clarion call of the African Peoples at home and abroad. This was the Declaration of the 2nd Kwame Nkrumah Intellectual and Cultural Festival which was held in Accra from 25 June to 1 July, 2017. The Festival was hosted by the Institute of African Studies of the University of Ghana under the auspices of the third Kwame Nkrumah Chair, Professor Horace Campbell.

Yves Niyiragira | Popular Participation & Democratization
    13.07.2017

Lawyers should claim their place in society by espousing Pan-African ideals. They should stop defending and colluding with corrupt African elites. A remarkable example is Henry Sylvester Williams, the Trinidadian barrister who, together with other Pan-Africanists, organised the first Pan-African conference in London in 1900.

    13.07.2017

Growing youth populations are placing social and political pressure on their governments to address the need for employment opportunities. But the dependence upon foreign markets for the export of natural resources and cash crops systematically undermines strategic planning within the present world economic order.

  • Marcus Garvey’s economic philosophy has a capitalism problem

    Ajamu Nangwaya | Global Pan-Africanism
    06.07.2017

In spite of the positive elements of economic Garveyism, it is not appropriate for African liberation in the 21st century. Garvey’s economic development approach was based on reproducing the exploitative system of capitalism, which would continue to oppress the Afrikan working-class.

  • Global Africa 2063: Education for reconstruction and transformation

    Various | Global Pan-Africanism
    06.07.2017

It was the goal of the festival to offer an ideal platform for a review and critical re-assessment of urgent tasks necessary to deepen the technical and intellectual skills needed for training the next cadre of thinkers and practitioners. The festival served as a vehicle for reflection and a springboard for new research efforts to promote Pan-Africanism and structural transformation of the African world.

  • Happy anti-racist African Liberation Day 2017!

    Antumi Toasijé | Global Pan-Africanism
    25.05.2017

It is important to understand the political significance of this Day. It is not just a Day to celebrate our African pride but also a date to remember the freedom fighters of the continent and to keep in mind all the battles still to be fought for the definitive liberation from neocolonialism. It is a Day to denounce all foreign interference in Africa.

  • Africa at the crossroads: AU commemorates 54 years amidst challenges

    Abayomi Azikiwe | Global Pan-Africanism
    25.05.2017

History is not as far removed from the crises afflicting Africa today as many people seem to think. Imperialism has fought against the continent’s genuine independence and socialist development over the last five decades. As Nkrumah said, independence was only the prelude to a tougher struggle for the right of Africans to conduct their affairs according to their own aspirations.

  • Film review: ‘Footprints of Pan-Africanism’

Ama Biney | Arts & Book Reviews
    04.05.2017

The film conveys the spirit of the period immediately after independence, when Africans at home and in the Diaspora were united by the single purpose of working for socio-political transformation of the African people. The challenge of building pan-African unity and prosperity remains for the present generation.

  • Not reform, overhaul the African Union

    Henry Makori | Global Pan-Africanism
    23.02.2017

The fundamental problem of the African Union is ideological. And no one typifies this crisis better than Paul Kagame, the terrifying tyrant and imperialist stooge of Kigali. His new report proposing remedies for reforming the Union belongs in the dustbin. The AU does not need reform. It needs a radical transformation taking it back to its Pan-Africanist roots.

  • Haiti is more African than many countries in Africa

    Hebert Ekwe-Ekwe | Global Pan-Africanism
    22.09.2016

In May, Nigeria played a key role to block African Union membership for Haiti. What a shame! The first African republic established by slaves in 1804, Haiti is 95 per cent Black. With its illustrious history, Haiti will surely play a more prominent role in a future African world organisation of peoples and states – not the currently constricted and contrived AU.

  • Pardoning Marcus Garvey: Sign Petition

    M.C | Advocacy & Solidarity
    22.09.2016

Marcus Garvey should be posthumously pardoned for his wrongful conviction for use of the mails in furtherance of a scheme to defraud. During a time when Blacks were seen as second class citizens, Garvey led a mass movement to elevate the Black community through economic empowerment and independence. He was convicted after being targeted by J. Edgar Hoover and deprived of a fair trial. Go to: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov//petition/grant-marcus-mosiah-garvey-p…

  • Pan-Africanism, women’s emancipation and the meaning of socialist development

Abayomi Azikiwe | Gender & Social Justice
    08.09.2016

Celebrated pan-Africanist Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana organized a historic conference for women in Africa and the diaspora in 1960 to celebrate their contribution to the liberation struggles, but also to create a platform for reflection on their future role in a free, socialist and united Africa. The meeting underscored the deep conviction among pan-Africanists about the revolutionary role of women, highlighting the fact that the liberation of Africa is impossible without the complete emancipation of all the women of the continent.

  • The African Union, a turning point?

    Vijay Makhan | Global Pan-Africanism
    14.07.2016

The eyes of Africa are this week turned to Kigali, host of the African Union Summit, where a new Chairperson of the AU Commission will be elected. The Summit presents yet another opportunity for African Heads of State and Government to place the continental body on a new path that will genuinely respond to the needs and aspirations of the African people.

    Motsoko Pheko | Global Pan-Africanism
    16.06.2016

Pan Africanism is anti-nobody. It is pro-Africa. The mammoth task of liberating Africa from the ongoing imperialist exploitation and marginalisation can be achieved only through Pan-African unity. African people must understand that they have a common destiny.

  • Eulogy for Pan-Africanism: Long live Man-Africanism

    Nanjala Nyabola | Global Pan-Africanism
    02.06.2016

Pan-Africanism as it once was dreamed is dead. In its place—instead of a transnational framework of solidarity deployed to give heart and direction to Africans during the independence and self-determination struggles—we have something that rallies to the defence of rich, powerful men but remains painfully silent about the suffering of the poor and dispossessed.

  • Pan-Africanism, feminism and finding missing pan-Africanist women

    Ajamu Nangwaya | Global Pan-Africanism
    26.05.2016

There are numerous women in the African Diaspora who have worked for the liberation of Africans under the banner of Pan-Africanism. They must be rescued from political obscurity. Pan-Africanism as a revolutionary ideology must firmly embrace feminism.

  • Not yet uhuru in Africa

    Munyonzwe Hamalengwa | Global Pan-Africanism
    19.05.2016

Africa is not yet free, despite formal independence. Most of the continent’s nations are in the grip of criminal regimes whose leaders belong in jail for widespread human rights violations. But those leaders always stand with one another to defeat justice.

    Jeggan C. Senghor | Global Pan-Africanism
    19.05.2016

The question of leadership of intergovernmental organizations in Africa has received inadequate attention in public discourse. The West African bloc ECOWAS has far-reaching prescriptions on how the organization’s top leadership should be constituted, but the provisions have often not been strictly observed. Politics and personal factors usually get in the way.

  • Anne Deborah Atai-Omoruto: An unsung heroine of Africa

    Cameron Duodu | Global Pan-Africanism
    19.05.2016

Pan-Africanism is not just a nice-sounding idea. It is a firm personal commitment to the lives of the peoples of Africa. When the latest Ebola crisis broke out in West Africa in 2014, Dr. Atai-Omorotu gathered some medical personnel in Uganda and headed to the region that everyone was running away from. She helped save many lives – only for her to die of pancreatic cancer two weeks ago.
